This is my first post, so thought of starting it sweet. Yes.. You are right.. Its the Wheat Halwa.. :)

Halwa is a sweet which everybody loves and you cannot resist this tasty dish. It is perfect for an evening snack time.

There are many kinds of halwa prepared in India. Each state has its own version of halwa and today I have prepared godhumai halwa which is popular in Tamil Nadu.

Traditionally they make Godhumai halwa with whole wheat but today I have tried it with wheat flour and it turned out awesome....

An Easy Fix For Ur Sweet Cravings... :)

Prep time: 10 mins
Waiting Time : 1 hour 30 mins    Cook time: 45 mins
 Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Wheat flour
  • 3-4 cup Water
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 3-4 tbsp Ghee
  • Few Cashew nuts
  • A pinch of Salt
  • A pinch of Cardamom Powder
  • A pinch of Orange food color
The basic step in making wheat halwa is to extract wheat milk.

Procedure

1. Take wheat flour in a bowl and add water to make a soft dough.
2. Add 2 and 1/2 cup water in the bowl so that the dough soaks nicely in water.

3. Let it soak for 1 and 1/2 hours.
4. Mix the dough nicely in the water. (Use hands and mix it to make sure the dough is completely dissolved)

5. Strain it to collect wheat milk separately.
6. Add 1/2 cup water in the strainer to extract more wheat milk.

7. Roast the cashew nuts with 1 tsp ghee and set aside.

8. Pour wheat milk in a pan and keep it in low flame.
9. Stir it continuously for 10 minutes and make sure lumps don't form. If you leave it unattended even for few seconds, lumps will form.

10. After 10 minutes, wheat milk will start thickening and you will notice a pale change in color.

11. Add sugar , salt and color (Dissolve color in 1 tsp water before adding to the wheat milk) and stir well until the Halwa looks glossy.
12. Add 1 tbsp of Ghee and stir well.

13. Cook for 30-35 minutes in low flame. Add ghee in-between and keep on stirring.

14. Add cashew, cardamom powder and stir nicely. The halwa will come without sticking to the bottom.

15. Switch off the stove and serve the hot delicious Halwa.
16. If you want Halwa in pieces, stir in low flame for 2 more minutes and then pour the halwa in greased plate and cut into pieces.

Notes

1. The entire process should be done in low flame
2. Make sure not to get any lumps in the first 10 minutes.
3. It is a simple recipe without any complications but the only job is to keep on stirring.
Shelf Life: Up to 5 days in room temperature and 10 days in refrigerator.

Try this yummy halwa and share your opinion... !!!
